Drop off, Pickup & Bell Schedules
Nearly 350 students are expected to get to and from Piedmont Avenue Elementary School on time every day. There is limited parking in the immediate vicinity of the school, which is set amidst a residential and busy business community. Traffic at pickup and drop-off can be stressful, and the development of our drop-off and pickup procedures has been a joint effort between site administration, staff, PTA, city officials, and the school’s neighbors. Your adherence to these procedures will ensure the safety of our children and minimize delays and/or inconvenience to you and others. Please connect with your child’s teacher for any questions about dismissal.
Campus opens at 8:30am. Students cannot be dropped off earlier than 8:30am; we do not have supervision. Students enter from the gate on the Echo Ave side of the building. Please be mindful of our neighbors and do not double park. Upon entry, students go to the playground. At 8:40am, students will line up at designated classroom spots. Parents may come onto the playground with their children but should not enter the building when school starts. Please note that per California education code, dogs are not allowed on the Piedmont Avenue Elementary campus. Please notify the front office if you have a service dog that needs to come on campus.
We ask families to be considerate of others and our neighbors by following our routines. Make sure your child knows your plan. For our younger students, make sure your teacher knows your family’s plan as well.

Rolling car pickup zone:
Please note the following important rules and tips:
- Safety matters so please use the crosswalk.
- From our experience, it is unsafe and adds to traffic congestion for students to be picked up in a car across the street.
- Please do not block the pick up zone and leave your car unattended.
- If your child is not out waiting when you pull up, you will be asked to circle the block.
- If you cannot drop off or pick up your child quickly and do not want to circle the block, you can park your car in a legal parking spot and walk over to drop/get your child.
- Do not idle or park in red zones, in designated bus areas, school/neighbors’ driveways, double park, jaywalk to meet your child, or expect your child to jaywalk to meet you.
- Refrain from honking your horn.
- Do not make U-turns in the middle of the street or at the Piedmont Ave intersection during drop-off and pickup times.
